In the Arctic the ice is a safe place for many sea creatures, including the Narwhale, Beluga and Seal. With the ice receding Orcas are able to move further north to get to their favorite tasty foods.
Local fishermen have seen the prey of Orcas act in fear as they approach, one example is the Seal. As a pod of Orcas approached a Seal would rather jump into a fisherman's boat than face the Orca. Thanks to Marine Biologist Ree Brennin on the Ocean Endeavour who pointed out that a fossilized T-Rex tooth had no difference compared to the tooth of a Orca (Killer Whale).
